 Monday, May 21.

We motored on our way to Bull Harbour on Hope Island (first lap of the way). Nice anchorage close to the village and marina. I caught a "wierd" codfish which we put in the crab trap and ended getting seven nice crab. Left Tues.am to start "the crossing". We "tacked" our way up Goletas Channel  (main sail and motor)  past Nahwitti Bar, smooth sailing - 7 hours to Fury Cove on Penrose Island   Anchored. The sunny day was spent in this protected bay where we scouted around the nice white, sandy beach. Carol and Dean came to our boat and we enjoyed a feed of crab and all the trimmings. "Fun!!  Dean put out his prawn trap and got 10 "big" prawn. No crab for us this time!  Wednesday am we relaxed and enjoyed breakfast together, pulled anchor shortly after 10am and made our way up the "Inside Passage), fishing along the way, to Addenbroke Island Lighthouse where soon after we took Kwakshua Channel to the west (between Calvert and Hecate Islands). What a flat calm, sunny day and we caught our supper to boot - a little dusky blue rockfish and a Puget Sound rockfish. Yum!  Marg needed to check the book for "proper names" - just that kind of a girl, she is!!  I made a carrot cake mix and added pineapple and walnuts.  Dave loved it - he thought it was pudding!!  According to Marg he never questions anything concerning food!  I like Dave!!   The reason we took this Kwakshua Channel is that at the west end there is a ""beautiful cove"" called Pruth Bay. Wow! There is a big fish chartering resort here where the rich and famous come. A little too early in the season yet so it is nice and quiet and we were able to take the walk through the resort grounds and into the woods for a 20 minute walk out to the ocean - "West Beach". Reminded me of Cape Scott. Now for the unbelievable. We put the crab traps down on arrival and by evening there were 17 lovely, big keeper crab. Threw back several undersized and female.  Well you can guess how busy we were last night!    We attributed part of the success to the remains of the two cod we had caught and put in the traps. By the way the cod fish were delicious!  We think it's about time to take some beef out of the freezer for a change on the menu!!  Our prawn trap is down so on the way out we will pull it and hope to find even a few to have with some steak.  We haven't had a taste of prawn yet. They are lovely and big here.  Have I got your mouths watering?? We are getting ready to sail now. Another sunny, calm day to make our way to Bella Bella. So many memories here for Norm and I from "Gospel Light" days in the early sixties. Would like to take time to stop in and say hello to some who would still be here but may not be able to do that.  This am we pulled in the two prawn traps using the windlass on "MaggieLou". One "large" prawn and two tiny bottom fish. Headed for Hakai Pass thru to Fisher Channel - north to Lama Passage - west and up north to Shearwater which is across from Bella Bella. We hope to find Internet Connection and send - and I can hear you saying "thank goodness"!  Your eyes need a rest - right? These journals are for our benefit but  if you would like them sent, okay - if not please let us know - we understand!!  Until next time we send our love to all, and yes, we are having the time of our lives.  Lord Bless,

To some Mom and Dad and to others Norm and Mary Lou.

May 25-07

We woke up to a cool morning here at Shearwater, across the Bay from Bella Bella.    As we motored along yesterday it was sunny and flat so Marg and I cleaned all those crab we had caught and we now have a nice stash put away in the freezer and fridge. Enjoyed a lunch of crab in a curry sauce over noodles for lunch, mm mm good -even Dave enjoyed it even though he was some hesitant about the "curry" part.   Travel with me and you have to put up with that - and garlic!!!  Marg is making a "Cheater Quiche" for lunch - yum!
I guess we have to suffer through with the crab because the prawn are giving us the run a-round and that's okay because we have to make room in the fridge for the Alaska King crab that we hope to catch further north in a secret place told to us by that fisherman friend we met in Pt. Hardy. And we will never loose hope or quit trying for the prawn!!  Okay, I'll shut up on that conversation for now.   What else is there to talk about??  When we walked up to the store here there was a huge eagle perched on a short stump of a tree just at the top of the ramp and I thought that by the time I got back to the boat for the camera it would surely be gone.   Not so. I called it a Robot Spy Intelligence Agent eagle as it sat there keeping watch in every direction of all the comings and goings on of everyone and the store, laundromat and restaurant, and every so often would do a fly-a-round, disappear for a short while and return for a repeat performance. Interesting!!  We seem to be travelling along with some big cruisers and sailboats often overnighting at the same place. The next couple days were rainy and cloudy.
