The next day we made our way to CRAIG which is the largest community of Prince of Wales Island, pop. 2100, and is the economic center of the Island. Also it is the home Port of a large commercial fishing fleet. There are stores (yeah), a Post Office’ (that makes Marg so happy!) banks, a laundromat (that makes us all happy), and the punch line – a library with Internet service!!
Now this letter has become too long so I must sign off. Hope you all enjoy the pictures at www.whiskycove.com. We will watch fireworks tonight. It was too rainy on the fourth so delayed and we hope by 11pm it will be nice and clear. Got all caught up on laundry today and we will be on our way tomorrow (Sunday) following the coastline of Prince of Wales Is. to its southerly tip and at that point we will be in Dixon Entrance and back in Beautiful British Columbia with our next stop likely to be in Prince Rupert in a few days from now – so you can enjoy a quiet time now. From there we will be retracing our path so there will be far less to write about – and I can hear you all thinking – thank goodness!!

Friday – July 6th

Today we are making our way to Craig which is the largest community of Prince of Wales Island and is the economic center of the island as well as the home port of a large commercial fishing fleet. Population 2100. There are stores (yeah!!) a post office, bank, laundromat (yes!) and a library with Internet service – now how nice is that?? We sure did enjoy our fresh caught salmon for supper and then walked all around town – that didn’t take too long. Saturday was the usual, do the laundry, walk some more around town but hey – it was fireworks night as they got rained out on the 4th and can these Americans ever do that up in a big way – even in such a small town. We could watch them from the boat – good thing as it was raining again but it was a go for the fireworks this time. An amazing show!! We found a nice church for Sunday a.m. service and it was nice to see a big number of youth in attendance, many of the people coming in from miles around.

We travel on today even though the forecast doesn’t sound that great for the next five days or so. It will take us a couple short days to get down to the south end of Prince of Wales Island and then a 12 hour day to travel across Dixon Entrance. After Craig our first anchorage was at Soda Bay on Prince of Wales Is., just east of the northern tip of Dall Island. Our crab fisherman did very well for us here and there were 8 big ones in the trap in the morning. I guess we will keep Norm around for the rest of the trip? Believe me, we eat like Kings!!

We spent Monday night in Elbow Bay, east side of Long Island, (Cordova Bay) . Rain and some chop today . Tuesday we stayed put; it rained all day and the visibility was too low to travel. Made a pineapple-lemon slice and we had Crab Bruschetta for supper – a winner recipe!! And it was a good evening to watch a movie and play a few games of Dicey. What a life!!
